Been to China three times with family and friends — always had Owen plan and guide us. He's taken me to every major spot, no regrets. The trips were super comfortable and way cheaper than I thought. Such a steal! If it's your first time in China, here's my real experience and a no-BS guide.

Most common question:
1. Group tour or solo? How to find a trustworthy local guide. 2. Best time to go + the 6 can't-miss attractions. 3. How to plan your itinerary (no headache). 4. Scam-proof tips & how to travel cheap as heck. 5. Food guide & how to book domestic flights/trains.
1. Group tour or solo? How to find a trustworthy local guide.
Before our first China trip, we were drowning in online guides — total info overload. We booked a local tour from Ohio Columbus, but the actual guide in China was Owen. He was great, so we swapped WhatsApp. Stayed in touch after going home, even sent friends his way — all of them loved him. So this time? I just went straight to Owen. He handled everything: accommodation, meals, transport, tickets, private car — the whole package, totally customized. Even after heading back to Ohio Columbus, we stayed in touch, chatting about everyday stuff. I've since connected him with friends traveling to China, and every single one of them came back super happy with his service. So for this trip, I just reached out to Owen directly and had him sort out the entire itinerary and all the arrangements. Owen customized everything based on what we wanted — accommodation, meals, transport, attraction tickets, and private car service, he handled it all.

Owen is a top-tier local guide who specializes in helping travelers from Ohio Columbus visit China. His quote for us? Under $1,500 USD per person for 10 days, 9 nights — and that's a fully private, no-shopping tour. Includes: luxury business van, 24/7 airport/train station transfers, 9 nights in nice hotels, all attraction tickets, meals, and him as our guide. All-in. Zero forced shopping. Saved us a ton of money and headaches. We had an amazing time — can't recommend him enough.
I've put Owen's contact info below. Anyone heading to China can hit him up for free advice — no pressure.

Money-Saving Tip
From my own experience: book a local guide directly. Skip the middleman agency — you get better service, pay less, and any problem gets fixed fast.

2.Best time to go + the 6 can't-miss attractions.
China is a year-round destination — the country is huge (6,000 km north to south), so weather and scenery change completely depending where you are. - Spring (Mar–May): Flowers bloom from south to north. Super pretty. - Summer (Apr–Aug): Lush mountains, beaches, grasslands — lots to do. - Autumn (Sep–Nov): Clear skies, crisp air, red leaves everywhere. Most comfortable. - Winter (Dec–Feb): North = snow, skiing, ice sculptures. South = mild, plus Chinese New Year vibes. We asked Owen to help us dodge the crowds. Ended up choosing October — perfect for someone like me who hates heat.

3.How to plan your itinerary (no headache).
Let's be real: China is huge — 3rd largest country in the world. Tons of places to see. Without a pro guide, you'll be totally lost. So again, I have to recommend Owen. Dude is a pro. He planned my whole trip — I just told him what I like, how busy or chill I want it, and he built the perfect itinerary.

Here's the October China trip Owen planned for me.
Day 1 :Touchdown in China
Fly in → Land in Shanghai → Check into hotel → Free time We flew ourselves into Shanghai. Owen and the driver were waiting at arrivals, took us to the hotel, and we signed an English contract with his company. Paid the rest, then we were free to do whatever. Don't skip: Shanghai braised pork belly & xiaolongbao. Owen sent us to these local hidden-gem restaurants — seriously so good. 🍽️ Meals: On your own 🏨 Stay: Downtown Shanghai
图片
Day 2–3 :Two Days Exploring Shanghai
🚗Yu Garden → City God Temple → Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street → Huangpu River night cruise 🚗Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town → Lunch inside the ancient town → Jin Mao Tower (night view) → Hotel Over two days, Owen took us to all of Shanghai's best spots. Honestly, it was awesome. Day 1: Yu Garden & City God Temple — classic old Shanghai vibes, where the history really comes alive. Afternoon: Nanjing Road (locals love it too). Evening: Huangpu River cruise for the stunning night skyline. Day 2: Zhujiajiao water town — took a little wooden boat through the canals, had a special lunch in the old town. Then at dusk: Jin Mao Tower, hundreds of meters up, looking over Shanghai's crazy modern lights. Old charm + modern glamour — that's what makes Shanghai so amazing. 🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner 🏡 Stay: Downtown Shanghai
图片
Day 4 – Shanghai → Zhangjiajie (by plane)
✈️Airport drop-off in Shanghai → Land in Zhangjiajie → Check into hotel → Free time We had a private transfer to the Shanghai airport. Flight was under two hours. Landed in Zhangjiajie — and as always, Owen had a private car waiting. Took us straight to a nice 4-star hotel in town. Still had time left, so Owen took us on a food hunt for local bites: sanxiaguo, dagupi, stuff we'd never tried. A bit spicy, but so good.

Day 5–6: Two Days Exploring Zhangjiajie's Stunning Mountains
🚗Zhangjiajie National Forest Park → Avatar Hallelujah Mountain → Yuanjiajie → Tianzi Mountain 🚶Tianmen Mountain → Ten-Mile Gallery → Glass Skywalk → Tianmen Cave Two days exploring Zhangjiajie's most stunning mountain scenery. Day 1: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park — yes, the floating mountains from Avatar were inspired by this place. Afternoon: Golden Whip Stream & Tianzi Mountain. Ancient trees, playing in the stream, wild macaque monkeys everywhere — so beautiful. At night, we watched the Charming Xiangxi show — great way to experience Chinese culture. Day 2: Tianmen Mountain. We did the glass skywalk (thrilling), then took Asia's longest cable car — one-way takes 35 minutes. And we got super lucky: saw wingsuit flyers jump off Tianmen Mountain. Owen said that's rare — this is China's only wingsuit base. Unforgettable. 🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner 🏡 Stay: Inside the scenic area
Day 7–9 : Three Days in Chengdu & Chongqing
✈️Chunxi Road – Hotpot – Giant Pandas – Dujiangyan 🚄Chongqing's mind-bending 3D cityscape – Legendary local eats – Real-life Spirited Away After Zhangjiajie, we flew to Chengdu for a 3-day trip. Still had private transfers — super smooth. Day 1: Dropped bags at the hotel, then hit Chunxi Road. Owen showed us the laid-back local scene. At night: real Chengdu hotpot — that spicy, numbing red oil broth hits different. So good. Day 2: Morning at the Panda Base — go early, they're most active. Watching them munch bamboo and roll around? Pure joy. Then Dujiangyan, a thousand-year-old irrigation system. Beautiful river and mountain views. Day 3: Took a high-speed train — 300+ km in just one hour — to Chongqing. This city is a real-life cyberpunk wonder. Roads stacked, buildings layered. Walked around eating Chongqing street snacks all day. At night, Hongyadong lit up like a scene from Spirited Away — unforgettable. Then one hour back to Chengdu. Seriously, so fast. 🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner 🏡 Stay: Downtown Chengdu

Day 10 : Souvenir Shopping & Airport Drop-off
✈️The morning was free — we went out to grab some local souvenirs for friends. Owen arranged the airport drop-off ahead of time based on our flight. And just like that, our perfect trip came to an end.
This is the 10-day China trip Owen planned for me — and I highly recommend it. Of course, China's huge, and everyone's different. So take mine just as a reference. Want your own custom trip? Hit up Owen for a free consult.
Here's the thing: booking with Owen saves you about 50% compared to going solo. Great value. His company works directly with local attractions and hotels, so he gets crazy low prices. That's a big reason why I'm recommending him — he saves you serious money.
Anyone heading to China, just reach out to him for free advice. Owen is the best guide I've ever met in China. And when you add him, say Emma from Ohio Columbus sent you — so he gives you the best price.

4.How to Avoid Scams & Save Money – Real Talk
1. Don't book hotels randomly first. Plan your route, then book. Ask a guide — or you'll waste time and money. 2. Skip cheap group tours. They force you into shopping stops. And don't book through a local agency back home — they just pass you to a Chinese operator. Go straight to a reliable local guide. Cheaper and better. 3. Always carry your passport. Attractions are far apart. Easy to get lost. Check with your guide before heading out. 4. Pack snacks and basic meds (cold pills, stomach meds, band-aids). Some scenic spots are far from each other.
图片
5.Hotel Booking – What Actually Works
- Book in advance. Once your plan is set, ask your guide to book hotels — especially since foreign travelers need licensed hotels. Don't just show up and get stuck. - Pick a good location. Easy transport = smoother trip. - Keep your stuff safe — common sense. Follow hotel rules. We always have Owen book hotels for us, about 4 weeks ahead. Check the photos — Owen's hotels are nice and close to shopping. Book early and he can often get you an upgrade.

Money-Saving Tips – From Real Experience
Before our first trip, we were drowning in online guides — total info overload. We went back to Owen, the local guide who showed us around China the first time. His service was great, so choosing him again was easy. We chatted on WhatsApp for about a week — he answered all my questions, super genuine guy. So many friends who've been to China also recommend him. Both times, Owen planned everything. Saved us time, money, and stress. We had a blast and even made a friend. Honestly, you don't need to burn yourself out on copied-and-pasted online guides. Just find a trusted local guide and get free, solid tips directly. That's how I save both money and energy. The cost? Super reasonable. Totally worth it. We had total freedom and so much fun. Even my parents loved it. So yeah, happy to give Owen a little shoutout.
I'll drop Owen's WhatsApp here. Any questions about visiting China? Just add him and ask.
